Days of relentless rain have produced historic flooding across Indiana, killing at least five people and forcing hundreds of rescues. Rivers remain well above flood stage and recovery is only beginning.

Human Cost and Rescues

Firefighters in Indianapolis alone pulled nearly one hundred people and dozens of pets from rising water. Statewide, the death toll has been confirmed at a minimum of five, with some reports citing seven. President Trump approved emergency federal funding for rescue and temporary shelter costs.

Power and Infrastructure

At the peak of the storms roughly 300,000 homes and businesses lost electricity; about 130,000 remained without power into the weekend. Roads and bridges have been damaged or closed, complicating both emergency response and the return of residents to affected neighborhoods.
