A fast-moving brush fire outside Reno has burned more than 10,500 acres with zero containment, prompting Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo to declare a state of emergency in Washoe County. Officials confirmed the blaze was human-caused.

Rapid Spread and Evacuations

The Hawk Fire ignited Saturday near Peavine Peak and expanded quickly under strong winds and dry conditions. Nearly 14,000 homes were placed under mandatory evacuation orders, with roughly 90,000 people living in evacuation or warning zones. Power outages affected thousands of customers.

Injuries and Response

Three civilians and three first responders sustained injuries. About 400 firefighters, supported by National Guard helicopters and ground personnel, are battling the flames. Structures have been lost, though a full count is still underway. Reno-Stead Airport closed to general aviation.
