A century’s record broken at last,
Indiana counts the storm’s heavy cost.

Days of severe storms and record rainfall left at least six people dead in Indiana as the White River reached levels not seen in more than a century. Floodwaters began receding in some areas Sunday, but recovery efforts continue.

Record Crests and Evacuations

The White River surpassed the 1913 record in Anderson and Noblesville. Indianapolis experienced its worst flooding in over 30 years, with hundreds of homes evacuated and firefighters conducting nearly 100 water rescues. More than 11 inches of rain fell in parts of the state over three days.

Power Outages and Ongoing Risk

Tens of thousands remained without power. Officials warned that additional storms could bring further flooding. A state of emergency is in effect and federal assistance has been requested.
